Guam - Following in the footsteps of island mayors and vice mayors and Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz, Speaker Judi Won Pat says she and her staff will be taking drug tests. "I think what it is, at least for me personally, is to be up front about it in terms of my expectations of my employees," she told KUAM News.

The speaker says she will be recommending that her colleagues and central staff do the same. Won Pat said she did not order the tests in her office in response to recent events involving former legislative staffer Chris Carillo's drug arrest. The speaker says she and her chief of staff had actually talked about drug testing for legislative staff but failed to go through with it; this time however she says drug tests in her office will be conducted.

The funding for the tests will come out of her office's budget.
