Guam - Along with giving accolades in his 2013 State of the Island Address to GCC and UOG, Governor Eddie Calvo said things are starting to turn around at the Department of Education, but more needs to be done such as equipping students for the 21st Century.  DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez said, "I think he said it best is it's about really keeping the momentum going and going in a positive direction and recognizing that even though we had challenges in the past that it's really time to lay down a foundation for some future growth and future results for our kids, so I'm with him. We know about the challenges in the past and it's time to look forward."

Governor Calvo announced last night that  for the upcoming fiscal year he will be requesting to use three million in compact impact funds to purchase computers for students.
