GEB, GFT return to negotiating table
by Krystal Paco
Guam - After a year of failed attempts to settle a teacher contract, the Guam Education Board and the Guam Federation of Teachers are returning to the negotiating table. Governor Eddie Calvo asked the parties to return to the table to eliminate the "climate of fear" at DOE.
At reform meetings Calvo learned that teachers refrained from speaking up to management in fear of retaliation, fear that has grown since teacher contracts expired and have yet to be renewed. GEB member Barry Mead says he's looking forward to working with new GFT president Tim Fedenko.
Mead, Fedenko, and GEB chair Francis Santos are slated to meet Monday at 4pm at an undisclosed location for preliminary discussions.
