Indigenous trees being planted around Guam

Guam - The Department of Parks and Recreation has new ideas to promote village garden themes throughout the island. DPR director Pete Calvo says one idea is planting da'ok tree's along Marine Corps Drive - the Liberation Parade route - so that the trees line the thoroughfare. He says other areas include near the park in tiyan as well as around the northern sports complex.
"We will be having a meeting with the mayors to get them involved so it becomes a village pride thing, getting the community actively involved in helping plant these plants in their village and we hope that we can continue doing themes like these in certain areas," he said.
Calvo says the effort is in the planning stages. He adds that DPR will also begin shoreline protection efforts along West Hagatna Bay by grouping coconuts and planting trees in the area.
