Babauta pays visit to DPW

Guam - Assistant Secretary for Insular Affairs Tony Babauta paid a visit to the Department of Public Works this morning. There director Joanne Brown and her staff presented their bus crisis. As we've been reporting, the fleet averages roughly 108 operational busses to transport 39,000 of the island's school children.
"Certainly this is something you folks have been contending with for many years the challenges in terms of funding, the challenges in terms of having adequate supplies available the environment that we all operate," Babauta said.
It was earlier this year the Department of the Interior awarded DPW with $1.28 million, which went to purchase five new 80-passenger busses. Although DPW was disappointed that $2.8 million was awarded to DOE earlier this week, they remain hopeful to receive more federal aid as their situation has evolved from
