Guam – From 2009 to 2011, the Guam Memorial Hospital billed $437 million in services that were provided to patients.  More than 50 percent of that figure was billed to Medicaid, Medicare and Medically Indigent Program patients. $125 million was billed to health insurance providers and an average of 68 percent was collected over the three-year period.

The hospital meanwhile only collected an average of $0.45 on the dollar from self-pay patients.  They were only able to collect a couple cents more for Medicaid, Medicare and MIP billings. This latest audit was a supplement to a financial audit released on the hospital a few weeks ago that showed GMH experienced the largest loss in over a decade at $29 million.
