GIAA launches civilian volunteer police program
by Nick Delgado
Guam - The Guam International Airport Authority is launching its Civilian Volunteer Airport Police Reserve Program. The airport developed the program to augment manpower.
Airport chief of police Bob Camacho says applications for the program will be accepted until May 14, and the twenty selected will be announced during this month's Law Enforcement Week. Camacho says the volunteers will go through a five-week training session to learn how to provide airport security, unarmed self-defense among other law enforcement requirements.
"We hope to reduce the overtime significantly, as we are running about $12,000 a month, and so having these officers readily available will reduce OT," Camacho noted. "The other thing is of course security, if there is any kind of crisis and we need additional support then we have these officers."
