Guam - Guam Buildup Office director Mark Calvo presented a briefing to lawmakers this morning on the status of the buildup and discussions he along with others of the Calvo Administration have had with the Department of Defense during their recent trip to the nation's capitol. According to Calvo, discussions focused on the progress or lack of progress with the proposed relocation of Marines from Okinawa to Guam.

"The details on the program they were very leery on talking any more on the number 4,700 primarily because negotiations with government of Japan are ongoing; they were not at ease at releasing any details until the message both U.S. Government and Government of Japan were moved forward," he said.

Calvo said it was apparent that the DOD was cautious in the messages they were sending out, because they're being scrutinized by members of Congress.
