Guam - James Cameron and crew have pulled out of the port. According to National Geographic communications representative Ellen Stanley the Mermaid Sapphire left Guam last night. The expedition ship along with a team of scientists from around the globe were heading for the Marianas Trench. Cameron, in a submersible he co-designed, will be diving into the deepest part of the trench and the deepest point on earth for that matter called Challenger Deep.

The expedition is part of a partnership with National Geographic and Rolex. Although there is no timeline as to when Cameron will begin his solo dive, when he does begin his descent. He was scheduled to stay at the bottom of the trench for six hours gathering scientific data and samples. There's been no new information released or posted on the status of the mission.
