Guam - The Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence is paying special attention to domestic and sexual violence in the lives of people with disabilities with a two-day conference. According to Guam Police Department participant Steve Ignacio, GPD's participation in the event ensures better service for victims with disabilities.

"There's some challenges like if we're dealing with a victim who needs a sign language interpreter," he said. "That's not a resource that's available at the Guam Police Department. By coming to this conference, we're learning that there are resources out there so that we learn to network and collaborate with these other service providers so that should a need arise, we know who to call."

GPD does not yet have data on victims with disabilities, but says it's something they may want to look into.
