Guam - New Vision Guam is partnering with DISID and the Guam Center for Independent Living. Over the weekend a orientation was held for the visually impaired and according to NVG's Lee Cruz, the event was held to help blind gain their independence, especially as local statistics are showing that the adult population is growing mainly due to diabetes.

"Self-determination for a person with disabilities, let alone a person who is blind it is so for all people it's important that we have a say in how we live our lives and to gain this independence to make our own choices in our lives," she said.

Cruz says the event helped connect blind individuals with relevant services, such as independent living program, transportation services, library services, Medicaid, and public assistance.
