GFD gets its first leased ambulance
Guam - The Guam Fire Department got the first of four ambulances that it will be leasing from Mid Pac Far East this afternoon. The medic which is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter comes at a time when the fire department has constant medic break downs resulting in delayed response time. The units are being leased at $10,000 a month each for the next year and includes maintenance services.
Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio states, "We are doing everything we can to get these ambulances on the road. Governor Calvo and I would like to thank the Guam Fire Department, Mid Pac Far East, the Office of Emergency Medical Services, and all other entities that made this a reality. This is just the first step toward ensuring the safety of Guamanians throughout the island."
The three other leased ambulances are expected to be operational within the next few days after further inspectin and processing. GFD has also put out a bid to purchase four new ambulances and repair existing units using Department of Interior Funding, as well as procure two federal surplus ambulances that are currently sitting at the General Services Agency.
