Guam - Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo got reassurance by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta that the Department of Defense continues to support the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam. This was said during a House armed services committee hearing today where the secretary testified that the US must maintain a forward presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Bordallo expressed concern over recent statements made in the Senate that sent mixed messages on the Administration's commitment to the realignment. Bordallo states, "I will continue to work with Secretary Panetta and my colleagues in Congress to ensure the United States fulfills its commitments in the Guam International Agreement, which is critical to maintaining peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region."
