Guam - A grand opening ceremony will be held next Wednesday at 3pm for the Northern Region Pool Complex. The $5,000,000 project was made possible through multiple grants allied for by the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority.

DPR director Joe Duenas told KUAM News, "Initially we were going to use the GHURA Community Development Block Grant. It wasn't sufficient enough. So thanks to the governor and Tony Babauta - he approached the Department of the Interior to give us an additional $2,000,000 and then the Department of Parks & Recreation went out to the National Park Service - we got an additional $250,000 and we also got the ARRA, which is $250,000."

Duenas says his agency planned for the expansion and funding for maintenance and additional personnel have been budgeted for in this fiscal year. It'll cost residents $2 to use the facility, which can hold up to 200 people.

The governor is seeking those ARRA funds for the baseball fields, which are adjacent to the pool.
