Guam - Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Bretania Underwood says she received confirmation from Adelup this afternoon that funds will be made available to support summer school this year. Underwood says she was informed that the money will come from the General Fund and will pay for salaries and supplies on a bi-weekly basis until the department can secure a third-party fiduciary agent.

The department was not able to access the $1.1 million needed for summer school, as the feds have withheld the funds until an agent was in place. Underwood anticipates an agent to come on board in the beginning of July.

She says summer school is projected to begin on June 14.
