Engine problems force plane's emergency landing

Guam - The Guam International Airport Authority has secured a Continental aircraft that had to make an emergency landing on Guam this morning. GIAA General Manager Carlos Salas says a Continental 757 aircraft was being delivered to Hong Kong for maintenance this morning when the plane experienced apparent engine problems and had to be re-routed back to Guam.
He says this may be the same type of aircraft that will be used for the direct Guam to Hong Kong flight this April. Salas says airport firefighters responded to the emergency landing at about 7 am to ensure the plane made it safely parked at a gate. No passengers were reported on board, and Salas says the four crew members are safe.
He adds that airport officials are compiling a full report on the emergency landing to determine if human error triggered the problem. Salas says the investigation will most likely be taken over by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
In the meantime, no flights for today at the airport were reported to be delayed as a result of the incident.
"Today Continental's ferry flight from Guam to Hong Kong made an emergency landing at the Guam Airport right after take-off since the pilots noticed a problem with one of two engines of its B757-300 aircraft. Because it was a ferry flight, there were no passengers on board except three cockpit flight crews. The flight landed safely at the Guam Airport without any problems," stated Koji Nagata, Director of Communications for Asia Pacific.
