According to lifeguards at Matapang Beach, the beach will only shut down once there is confirmation that we are in Condition of Readiness 2.  At that point, the beaches will be shut down and locked up.  In the meantime, residents are urged to be very cautious when in the water until Typhoon Melor passes the island.

Department of Parks and Recreation lifeguard Mike Benito.  "I'm pretty sure on the east side of the island the surf is already picking up, but over the next couple of days the west side of the island now will be increasing surf.  So just a reminder, we should be expecting heavier waters, just a reminder again for all the people coming down to the waters, be safe around the waters.
