More than 40 sailors, marines, and civilians from U.S. Naval Base Guam and its tenant commands spent the day volunteering at Marcial Sablan Elementary in Hågat.

During the five-hour community relations project, teams helped clear debris, move furniture and supplies, and install TV monitors in the school cafeteria, all in support of back-to-school preparations.

The effort is part of the sister village/sister school program, which connects military units with public schools and villages to foster lasting partnerships and shared community service.

Commands from across the base took part, including Navy security forces, the chapel and admin departments, NMC Pacific East Asia Division, Camp Blaz, AIMD Guam, Task Force 75, and others.

Marcial Sablan is Naval Base Guam’s adopted sister school, and the command was recently honored with the 2024 sister school-sister village award, for the third consecutive year.

Staff at the school say the help is always welcomed and makes a big difference for teachers and students alike.

Marcial Sablan is one of 41 GDOE schools preparing to welcome students back on Aug. 7.
