Boil water advisory issued for Yigo & Mangilao: GWA Well Y-3 tests positive for fecal indicator

The Guam Waterworks Authority has issued an urgent boil water notice for residents in Yigo and Mangilao after Well Y-03 tested positive for E. coli, a fecal indicator organism, in raw water samples collected on July 17.
While disinfected water in the distribution system tested negative, residents are advised to boil all tap water for at least three minutes before use or use bottled water until further notice.
This applies to drinking, food prep, brushing teeth, making ice, and washing dishes.
Fecal indicators may suggest contamination with human or animal waste, posing health risks, especially to infants, children, and those with weakened immune systems.
GWA has taken additional water samples, flushed the system, and confirmed chlorine levels are within safe range. They anticipate resolving the issue within 24 to 48 hours.
