Wife stabbed over 50 times planned to file for divorce; sought guidance from pastor

A brutal and heartbreaking case of domestic violence has rocked our island community. A man accused of stabbing his wife more than 50 times is now charged with murder, allegedly over her plans to divorce him.
Authorities say what began as an argument between husband and wife ended in a savage and deadly act. 61-year-old vince Edward Santos Yatar is charged with first-degree murder, accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Diana Rose Lagman, over 50 times on Sunday night. Court documents reveal the couple had ongoing marital problems—fueled by Yatar's alleged infidelity and Lagman's plan to file for divorce.
Yatar was seen at a Mobil gas station in Sinajana just after 7:30pm, wearing a blood-stained shirt with visible injuries. Two separate witnesses told police he refused medical help and asked to use a phone before driving away in a Mazda. Less than an hour later, Yatar walked into GPD’s Central Precinct and surrendered—telling officers, “She’s in the car. She’s dead.”
Police found Lagman’s lifeless body in the front passenger seat, with multiple stab wounds across her neck, face, arms, and back. A bloodied pocketknife was found nearby.
GFD medics attempted life-saving measures, but it was too late. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death: multiple stab wounds. The manner: homicide.
Investigators also uncovered a troubling history of abuse. Lagman had previously reported Yatar for harassment, even expressing fear for her children's safety. Despite the recent marriage, she had already sought guidance from her pastor to leave him.
In a chilling moment inside his holding cell, Yatar asked to speak with Lagman’s daughter. Through tears, he reportedly said: “I’m sorry. I’m not well.”
Yatar is being held on charges of murder with a special allegation for using a deadly weapon.
