Public Health announces food safety tips to honor World Food Safety Day

World Food Safety Day is set for June 7 and the Department of Public Health and Social Services are reminding that safe food is a shared right, and a shared responsibility
This year’s global theme, “Food Safety: Science in Action,” highlights how science helps protect our families and our island, from detecting harmful bacteria to monitoring safe temperatures and improving how we label and handle food.
What You Can Do:
Follow food safety basics!
Wash hands, separate raw and cooked food, cook thoroughly, and chill properly.Stay alert
Keep up with food recalls and health alerts.
Be emergency ready
Know how to handle food during typhoons and power outages.
Check temperatures
Keep cold foods cold (below 41°F) and hot foods hot (above 140°F).
Support safe vendors
Choose food establishments who follow food safety standards and regulations.
When we follow science-backed practices and support each other, we keep our island strong, one safe meal at a time.
“Food safety isn’t just about what happens in a lab or a kitchen; it’s about trust. It’s about making sure the food on our plates—at home, at fiestas, and in our favorite restaurants—is safe,” said DPHSS officials. “And that takes all of us working together.”
