The Micronesia Music Festival “Rhythm by the River” is this Saturday and all week long, KUAM will be bringing you details about this celebration that promotes culture and music of people from across Micronesia.

At only 11-years-old, Caleb Santos is a pro on the ukulele and this Saturday, he will be at the Valley of the Latte in Talo’fo’fo’ joining other talented musicians for Rhythm by the River.

“It was really exciting because I just heard about the event when I came here and when I heard about all these great performers - I was like whoa I am going to play with a lot of cool people,” said Santos.

A time to vibe out to familiar artists like Patrick Palomo and The Tradewinds.

“I am just so thrilled to be able to play surrounded by nature. There's a certain vibe that affects artists and over the years and with the young musicians that I've been mentoring, we’ve learned to tap into that,” said Palomo.

The event will also include food from local vendors, arts and crafts and more.

A fun time for a good cause as proceeds will benefit the Wave Club, a school based program that promotes the importance of tourism in Guam.

Donna Muna Quinata is the chair of the Tourism Education Council.

“That’s why it’s so important that we have this music festival for not just the adults but for the children as well and it’s a family function,” Quinata said.

The event and the beneficiaries is overall a plus for the community, according to Dave Tydingco, President of the Valley of the Latte.

“We’ve got to be able to start with the kids that will make a difference for our future and the wave club is perfect. The best way we thought to celebrate our culture and help the wave club is through music,” added Tydingco.

Rhythm by the River is this Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
