CNMI Superior Court Judge Joseph Camacho acquitted chief parole officer Nick Reyes of misconduct in public office and forgery. His bench trial, which concluded on Thursday, also included testimony from CNMI Gov. Arnold Palacios earlier this week.

Reyes was accused of allegedly altering a contract to change the term of employment from 30 days to one year.

Jack Torres, Reyes’ attorney, told KUAM .”We wanna thank the Court for giving Mr. Reyes his day in Court. We also wanna thank Governor Palacios and SAA Oscar Babauta and all the witnesses for their honesty when they took the stand. They all testified that Mr. Reyes had no knowledge of the Contract Modification.”

Reyes can report to work as his contract is processed.

Assistant Attorney General and Special Prosecutor James Kingman declined to comment.

Reyes is set to be back in court for a jury trial on June 3rd where he faces separate charges of misconduct in public office and conspiracy to commit theft by deception.
