The University of Guam Press is hosting a special book launch for local children’s book Tåsi, Tåno’, and Pulan at the Aquarium of Guam this Saturday.

Tåsi, Tåno’, and Pulan is authored by freelance filmmaker, actor and writer Steven Lefever and illustrated by Constance Sartor.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Lefever told KUAM while proudly holding up his published book. “It was just amazing, showing that it’s actually here and it finally happened after just having an idea and passing it around to people.”

The story is about twins Tåsi and Tåno’ and their friendship with a sea turtle named Pulan.

It all started with an idea several years ago and a hope for the community to make waves.

“I know people are doing their part, but I just wish collectively as a culture we can do something to change. So I thought creating a beautiful story that also has a bit of a lesson in there could be beneficial,” Lefever said.

He hopes readers takeaway a lesson on the importance of keeping our oceans clean. And how small steps of change can make big waves for years to come.

“It’s not just about beach cleanups and all that, because we can do that all the time which is great. But we have to take the next step in terms of ‘can i do this in a different way that can benefit the environment? Can I enjoy what I enjoy without harming our land and ocean?’" he said.

UOG Press will be launching the book this Saturday at the Aquarium of Guam from 10 am to 12 pm.

“I’m going to do a reading. I want to see everyone that I've known for years and I also want to see new people connect with this story,” he added.

Lefever will also be hosting a free writing workshop at UOG Press this Friday at 5:30 pm.

“It’s our birthright to create,” he said. “Anyone can create, and if they want, to write anything they want. I did a children’s book and want to [write] more children’s books, but right now i’m focused on [writing] a movie script.”

In the future, he hopes to make a coming of age movie sailing the islands in the Marianas.

Tåsi, Tano, and Pulan is available online at uogpress.com for a special pre-order price of $12. Sales in local bookstores and on Amazon will begin after the launch.
