U.S. Labor Secretary to work with CNMI Del. Sablan on CW-1 issues

Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su committed to working with CNMI Del. Gregorio Sablan on the issues surrounding CW-1, or CNMI-Only Transitional Worker, visa as she enters her new role.
Sablan recently questioned Su at a House Education and the Workforce hearing in D.C.
"My other issues are related to the Commonwealth worker issues which is a unique visa to the CNMI so...may I ask for some commitment that you will have your office work with my office in getting some answers or getting some of these issues resolved in some way?" Sablan said.
Su responded, reiterating her belief that every worker should be treated with dignity and that employers should get the help they need to meet demands.
"Obviously, the question of whether CNMI is covered under specific federal programs is a question for Congress, but I am committed to ensuring that CNMI receives the support and funding for which it is eligible and I understand your issue about CW-1 and you do have my commitment to work with you to make sure we are doing everything we can," Su said. "As you know we have federal investments in apprenticeship programs on the island. We've had funding from the Rescue Plan on helping to shore up the unemployment insurance system and I certainly commit to continue to work with you on all of those things."
