Victim in Tamuning taxi crash dies, 2 pedestrians injured

Posted: Updated:

The Guam Police Department's Highway Patrol activated again to investigate another fatal crash.

Traffic was blocked off for a couple of hours as highway patrol launched another investigation this time in Tamuning.

"Based on the preliminary reports that we gathered a KIA Sedona Van was traveling northbound along governor Carlos Camacho Road when the male operator lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway and collided with a concrete utility pole," Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao said.

But the driver wasn't the only one injured, Tapao said.

"As a result of the collision with the concrete utility pole, two pedestrians who were walking along the sidewalk were subsequently struck by debris from the crash," he said.

The taxi cab driver who was transported to the Guam Memorial Hospital with CPR en route was later pronounced dead by attending physicians, as for the pedestrians they were transported to the Guam Regional Medical City in Dededo. The reason according to GFD spokesperson Cherika Chargualaf, GMH was on divert status - or was full.

"Their conditions are unknown at this time as our traffic investigators have yet to determine the condition of the pedestrians," Tapao said.

This marks the 12th traffic-related fatality and the third in the past two weeks. No arrests have been made in connection to last week's auto-pedestrian fatality involving a 4-year old in Dededo and also no arrest in connection to the death of 40-year-old DonnyRed Garrido who died after being hit by a car while walking along Toto Canada Road on May 4.
