The Air National Guard pilot who died on Guam Tuesday is identified as Captain John Goeres. He was a KC-135R Stratotanker pilot with Alaska Air National Guard's 168th Air Refueling Squadron.

Col. Bryan S. White, his commander says "he was a trusted and gifted aviator, who served our state and nation with distinction and honor, and we will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers rest with his family, as well as all of those who served beside him."

The airman's body was pulled from the waters at Tumon Bay.

The cause of death remains under investigation, though officials suspect no foul play.
