Governor signs bill making homegrown medicinal marijuana legal

Posted: Updated:

Homegrown medicinal marijuana is now legal here. Governor Eddie Calvo signed the bill into law which allows for limited home cultivation for certified patients, or their designated caregivers.

Senator Louise Muna authored the law as a stop-gap measure to help needy patients until medical marijuana dispensaries are finally established. In a news release, Muna noted that while there are still restrictions, "those who need it most for medical uses like pain management, nausea control, or as an appetite stimulant will benefit from it."

It's been almost four years since the referendum legalizing medical marijuana, but the rules and regulations and other requirements, such as a laboratory have not yet been implemented.
