Inclement weather forecast for Marianas

Island residents can expect to see an increase in rain showers and thunderstorms beginning this evening and continuing through Friday as a tropical disturbance forms over Chuuk State. This morning the Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert. The National Weather Service is currently forecasting the disturbance to pass south of the Marianas but it will bring some inclement weather beginning this evening and persisting through Friday night. Northeast winds of 10 to 20mph are forecasted for today and tonight and will become breezy at 15-25mph tomorrow and tomorrow night. Gusts to 35mph could occur in heavier showers. Additionally, Increasing winds and waves will be a hazard to small craft on Friday and Friday night. Seas and surf may increase and generate a high rip current risk on north and east facing reefs.
