The Guam Department of Education pilot pre-kindergarten program may double next year now that the two-year evaluation on the program's effectiveness is under review. The Guam Education Board is currently reviewing the evaluation report before submitting it to the Guam legislature.

Superintendent Jon Fernandez explained, saying, "So that was a requirement that was set by the legislature to turn that evaluation in and talk about the expansion to 4 additional schools."

DOE requested over 681-thousand dollars in the department's FY 18 budget request in anticipation of the expansion. The money would fund additional personnel, equipment and infrastructure costs.

The pilot pre-k program currently serves over 70 students at schools including JQ San Miguel, Finegayan, Lyndon B. Johnston and Marcial Sablan Elementary Schools.

A work session to discuss the program evaluation is set for July 7th.
