Guam - DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez anticipates opening Benavente Middle School on time as repairs to the school are underway. During Tropical Storm Halong a power surge caused an electrical fire and left the school without power, and he said, "On Wednesday vendors visited BMS to look at the damage and see what was needed on Friday the vendors submitted their quotes for the services and we selected Regan Wilson who began their work on Friday."

The contractor was given five days to clean the soot filled electrical room and replace the affected wiring before powering up the school. The cost for the repairs was about $75,000, which was paid using doe internal funds. The deadline to complete the repairs is Wednesday.
