Guam - Lace up your running shoes and start getting ready now for the 2014 Guam International Marathon. It's not too late to sign up and over the next several weeks we'll have stories that will inspire you to cross the finish line.
The Marathon, set for Sunday, April 14, is Guam's premier international sports event, attracting athletes from all over Asia, the U.S. and Guam. It's the ultimate of showcase of good will, health, fitness and the Hafa Adai spirit and this year promises to be better than ever with more pre race and post race features.
Race director Ben Ferguson told KUAM News, "There are a lot of additional features that we are implementing this year. We had a very successful first year of the event but like any event we always look to improve upon what we've done. And probably the biggest change, 2 of the biggest changes we've made to the event this year are that we are introducing a marathon expo to the event. For runners that have done events overseas typically large international events have an exhibition that occurs prior to the event in the days leading up to the event."
Proceeds also help promote and protect the beauty of our island with two very worthwhile beneficiaries. "The beneficiaries of the race, as they were in year one, are the Tourism Education Council, and the Island-wide Beautification Task Force. Both of the beneficiaries did a great of job of supporting the event in the first year and we look forward to working very closely with them in the second year of the event as well. Those are two beneficiaries that really give back to the community and do a lot to promote Guam and make Guam a better place for people to visit and for people to live here as well," he said.
