Guam - In the Decision 2012 mayoral elections, it was an
impressive republican showing in the combined village of Asan-Maina
for Joana Margaret Blas, receiving received 16 more votes then her opponent,
incumbent Vincent Babauta.
Piti mayor Vicente Gumataotao retained his seat for another term, as
did Agat mayor Carol Tayama and vice mayor Agustin Quintanilla. Johnny Quinata secured the Republican win in Umatac
alongside mayor Ernest Chargualaf in Merizo.
In Yona, newcomer Ken Joe Ada unseated incumbent mayor Jose
Terlaje. Ada
told KUAM News, "I am very honored that the people of Yona have spoken and
chosen me to represent them in the future, and I look forward to working hard
and I want to dedicate myself working for the people, and I'd like to say hello
to Estelle Alig. I love you Estell! And to all the people and supporters that believed
in me and my family. And most importantly, I want ot thank everybody that came
forward and just wanted to make change happen."
In Agana
Heights, another Republican
victory as Mayor Paul McDonald retains his leadership in the village. And the same applies for Mangilao mayor Nito
Blas. Yigo saw a huge upset, as Republican Rudy Matanane took the victory over
Mayor Robert Lizama. Matanane will work with vice mayor Anthony Sanchez.
And in the village
of Inarajan, another
major upset, as Democrat newcomer Doris Flores Lujan beat out longtime mayor
Franklin Taitague.
