East Wing likened to Guam: "pleasant but powerless"

Guam - From Rick Santorum's comments last week to posts on the Urban Dictionary's website and now in a new book "The Obama's" Guam's certainly getting its share of bad press.  The book reportedly reveals First Lady Michelle Obama's antagonistic relationship with her husband's top aides.  Author,  New York Times Journalist Jodi Kantor writes the First Lady's office became so isolated that her aides began referring to the East Wing of the White House as Guam, "pleasant but powerless".

Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo said, "The reference to Guam as 'pleasant but powerless' by some White House staffers, if true, demonstrates a lack of understanding of our island by junior administration staff. Guam is not powerless in the sense that the delegate votes to the democrat and republican national conventions remain important to the outcome of who receives the party's nomination. For example, just 4 years ago, then-Senator Barack Obama pleaded for Guam's votes during his bid for the Presidential nomination. It is my belief that President Obama continues to understand Guam's importance."
