Guam - A new hospital for Guam is one step closer to becoming a reality. The project has been in the making for the last several years by the Guam Healthcare and Hospital Development Foundation, which announced today that the developer and investors have completed the acquisition of property in Dededo near the Micronesia Mall for the construction of the "Guam Regional Medical City."

The site is located at the corner of Marine Corps Drive and Route 3, less than one quarter of a mile north of the mall. Phase 1 of the private hospital development is currently planned for a total of 130 acute care beds, 20 intensive care beds, 18 basinets and 6 incubators. Phase 1 of the development will incorporate design work to allow for expansions of the hospital facility for up to a total of 350 beds without compromising hospital operations, patient safety and care. Included in the development is a medical arts building for use as physician clinics, which like condominium developments, will provide physicians with the opportunity to lease or purchase units.

The design will have the main hospital building immediately adjacent  to the Medical Arts Building for the convenience of patients, their families, physicians and also to provide for reduced response times in the event of emergencies.

Phase 1 is currently projected to be completed and open to patients in January of 2014 and is estimated to coast $197 million.
