Archdiocesan Symposium asks "Marriage: One Man, One Woman, Why?"

Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron will lead the Archdiocesan Symposium this evening at the St. Therese Chapel at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica in Hagatna.  The symposium is called, "Marriage: one man, one woman. Why?" and comes just weeks before a slew of public hearings on same sex unions are expected to take place at the Legislature. These hearings will focus on pending legislation that could lead to significant changes for the glbt community. Speaker of the Guam Youth Congress, Derrick Hills says, "the symposium is the church's way of religious reply to discriminating innocent hardworking same sex relationships."  The bills on the table are 138, 185 and 212. Each of these bills addresses benefits sought by same sex couples who are fighting to have their unions recognized and civil rights acknowledged.
