Legislation that would extend United States Immigration laws to our neighbors to the north was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives today. The measure now heads to the White House for the president's approval. S-2739 extends federal immigration policy to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and also authorizes a CNMI non-voting delegate to the House and establish a federally administered guest worker program on the island.Guam congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo says the passage of the measure is "long overdue and a very important component of this omnibus, consensus bill." Bordallo adds she looks forward the day "the delegate from the CNMI is sworn into the House of Representatives."It's expected the president will sign off on the legislation.
