CAUGHT! Escaped inmate Pangelinan captured at gas station; Cruz remains at large
At approximately 6:45am on Easter Sunday, prison escapee Frank E. Pangelinan's status changed from 'fugitive' to 'captured', as the man who had eluded local law enforcement authorities for nine days became a prisoner of the Department of Corrections once again.
Officers with the Guam Police Department apprehended Pangelinan, thought to be armed and extremely dangerous, at the Mobil gas station in Hagatna. The other escapee, Jeffrey John Cruz, remains on the run. Pangelinan, Cruz, and Michael Laguana, Jr. originally escaped from DEPCOR's Maximum Security Facility in Mangilao on March 18. Laguana was captured three days later.
Pangelinan will continue his jail sentence, convicted of aggravated murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, hindering apprehension, and possession and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. Cruz, who previously escaped from prison several years ago, was initially convicted of two separate robbery charges. He stands 5'6", weighs 200 lbs. and has black hair with brown eyes.
Just yesterday, DEPCOR acting director Bob Camacho and police chief Frank Ishizaki made a public appeal to both Pangelinan and Cruz, promising them safe passage and guaranteeing they would not be harmed should they voluntarily turn themselves in.
Anyone with information about Cruz's whereabouts are still urged to contact GPD immediately at 477-8553 or Guam CrimeStoppers at 477-HELP (4357).
