Getting a taste of KFC's extra crispy or rotisserie chicken weren't on the minds of several passionate folks at the restaurant in Tamuning. Locking themselves up in a wire cage, members from the People for the Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) protested the nationwide chain for not enforcing an animal welfare policy.Asia-Pacific director Jason Baker explained, telling KUAM News, "[KFC doesn't] have requirements of space, no mechanized gathering of animals. They need to improve their slaughterhouse techniques."Baker referred to recent reports of the treatment of chickens in slaughterhouses in West Virginia and Australia where employees were caught kicking, throwing and even stomping live birds. KUAM News spoke with Jackie Shafer, marketing manager of KFC Guam, who declined comment on the matter and referred any questions to the company's corporate headquarters in the mainland.
