The 13th Air Force at Andersen Air Force Base has a new commander overseeing its operations. A change of command ceremony was held earlier this morning. Outgoing 13th Air Force commander Major General Dennis Larsen handed the responsibilities of the unit to Major General Edward Rice.

During a farewell speech, Larsen touched on the number of the 13th Air Force's accomplishments, saying he would miss the close ties established with the community and especially the people. A relationship, Major General Rice said to those present, is looking forward in continuing aside from the mission of the 13th Air Force. He explained, saying, "The island of Guam and its people have a well deserved reputation. I look forward in strengthening that strong bond that exists."

Rice arrives on Guam from the nation's capital where he served as chief of staff for the office of the representative and executive director for the Coalition Provisional Authority. In the meantime, Larsen and his family are heading to Randolph Air Force Base in Texas where he will be vice-commander of Air Education and Training Command.
