Hazardous waste facility opening Friday

Guam - Following Guam EPA's approval of its permit last week, the Harmon Residential Transfer Station and Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be opening its doors this Friday.

Both facilities are located in the Harmon Industrial Park behind the Department of Public Works complex. The HHW facility is a requirement of the consent decree.

Both facilities will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday through Monday and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and all GovGuam holidays. According to a release by federal receiver Gershman Brickner & Bratton representative David Manning states, "The new household hazardous waste facility will provide for the safe disposal of household hazardous waste as required by the consent decree. This will divert these materials from the Layon Landfill to more appropriate disposal, thereby better protecting Guam's environment and preserving needed landfill space."

He adds that the residential transfer station will provide the same trash disposal and recycling services as other residential transfer stations... Accepting items such as cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminum and household trash. For the complete list of accepted materials visit gbbinc.com
