The Attorney General's Office is conducting a preliminary investigation into Senator Matt Rector's criminal background.  KUAM News was first to break the story this week of the Democrat lawmaker's burglary conviction from 1983.

The senator continues to refuse to answer calls or do interviews with KUAM News to answer our questions about his arrest and conviction in California.  Rector has stated in comments posted online that he is moving to have the burglary removed permanently from his record, something that will require approval from a California court judge.

In the meantime, the AG's Office has attempted to contact the Guam Election Commission's legal counsel.  Spokesperson Eric Palacios tells KUAM that they received information from the Guam Police Department about Rector's criminal history, adding that the AG's Office review is pending the completion of both investigations being conducted by GPD and the GEC.
