Trash cart rollout effort completed

by Nick Delgado

Guam - The Guam Solid Waste Management Division announced today its successful completion of the cart rollout program. Federal receiver representative Gershman, Brickner & Bratton David Manning says the response from residential customers to the new trash cart system has been very positive since implemented in late November 2009.

He states, "The new cart-based trash collection system is an important step towards keeping Guam clean and green."  GBB delivered carts to more than 19,000 customers. Residents who still want to register for trash service can contact Solid Waste Management Division customer service representatives at 646-3111 for more information on the process.

GBB also reports that later this year, a pilot curbside recycling program will be rolled out to approximately 1,000 homes and a bulky waste collection for furniture and appliances will begin. Future plans include free household hazardous waste collection sites to dispose of batteries, antifreeze, used motor oil and other household toxics that are hazardous and can't be put in with the regular trash.
