Democrat Sen. Joe San Agustin on Tuesday officially announced businessman and former senator Dwayne San Nicolas as his running mate in the 2026 gubernatorial race — making them the first confirmed Democratic team for the election.

San Agustin, a former police officer, U.S. Army veteran, and longtime public servant, said the partnership is “rooted in faith and grounded in service.”

San Nicolas, an Army infantry veteran, former school counselor, customs officer supervisor, and owner of J. Goodman LLC, shared his excitement in a Facebook post:

“I want to extend a huge thank you to Senator Joe San Agustin for making my 50th birthday truly unforgettable. I feel incredibly blessed by his faith and trust in me. It is with great excitement that I share I have accepted his invitation to be his running mate for Lieutenant Governor of Guam. It’s an honor to team up with him as we work to move our island forward. I trust his leadership and commitment to the people, and together, I believe we can achieve amazing things.”

San Nicolas served one term in the 37th Guam Legislature, where he championed consumer fireworks legislation.

Though he lost his reelection bid in 2024, finishing 17th out of 25 candidates, he now steps back into the political spotlight as part of the 2026 race.
