A homegrown talent is making his return to the island stage and he’s bringing backup.
Guam’s own Jason J. is set to open for Hawaiian powerhouse Maoli at the Hafaloha Concert Series Part 4 on Saturday, July 5 at the Ypao Beach Park.
But this isn’t a solo homecoming, Jason’s bringing fellow island boys and longtime friends to join him, turning the concert into a reunion of rhythm, roots, and island pride.
“Everytime I get to come home and play, it's always a blessing. Just to reconnect with the island,” said Jason.
His reaction when he got word?
“I was ready to go. I've been waiting for the phone call this time around it's really cool to represent the 'Hafa' in the hafaloha and to be opening up for Maoli, they are a great band...and I'm gonna be putting out my best on the stage, right before they do,” said Jason.
And this time around, he is bringing a band with familiar faces like Peter Cruz, Oston Saralu, and Shiabe Pangelinan.
“Each of them are their own artists. It's super cool because whether or not I sing all my songs, I always let my boys sing a couple songs in the set,” said Jason. “They're so down for me. I’m blessed.”
Along with the band, he loves that he gets to bring his son and his other half.
“This show means a lot to me. It's kind of like a homecoming. Its been a while. And this time around I have a lot of new songs, new transitions in the set there will be a lot of fan favorites and new flavor,” he added.
And along with enjoying the show, make sure you hit up Jason for his artwork!
“I’m gonna be carrying a backpack full of art prints. I'm going to be slanging that all over the island. So if you see me, I'm gonna have art on me, and you can buy them right off,” he said.
