The National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a Rip Current Statement, in effect for East facing reefs of Guam through Saturday afternoon.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents:

  • Swim near a lifeguard
  • If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
  • Don’t swim against the current.
  • If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
  • If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

For the small craft advisory, it is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for Guam coastal waters. East winds around 20 knots with gusts up to 30 knots and seas 7 to 10 feet making conditions hazardous for small craft.

The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents that inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
