80’s superstars The Jets return to Guam 'like coming home'

80’s superstars ‘The Jets’ are back on island for the first time since 2018 and they’re ready to rock the night away at the University of Guam Calvo Field House this Saturday.

Siblings Eddie, Vise, Natalia, Moana, and Kathi Wolfgramm found their rhythm in the familiar Hafa Adai spirit.

“One big component is we’re islanders– Pacific islanders. So coming to Guam is like coming home,” said Moana.

The island way also struck a chord with special guests New Yorker SA-Fire from Puerto Rico and DJ Eddie B. Swift.

“I’m really excited to bring some of this freestyle music for you guys and just again to be able to share a stage with The Jets and my dj. We’re excited and we can’t wait,” said SA-Fire.

The Jets were just teenagers when they first performed in Guam in ‘88.

“So just to come back– we’re going to be celebrating our 40th anniversary next year. So we’re just grateful for the love and support for the CHamoru people,” said Kathi.

Stardom hasn’t been easy for the Tongan-American family musical group who split during those 40 years but they’ve stayed rooted through faith and love for family.

“Family means Forget About Me, I Love You. In the industry, it can be really cruel and we’ve had to learn how to put the priority on the family and the Jets are on the side. Because that’s how important our family is– and it did. It took us through a lawsuit and we have brothers who’ve performed separately from us, but we’ve finally come together and said ‘hey, let's be civil. We got all these children who are cousins now. There’s no time for this nonsense. We got to be a family,” said Moana.

Now they’re bringing back the nostalgia Saturday with their biggest hits like Curiosity, Crush On You and Make It Real.

“The older you get, the more you appreciate the heartbreak songs because we were just teenagers who didn’t know anything about it. But now when we sing it, there’s a lot more meaning behind it and there’s a lot more emotion when we sing it,” said Moana.

And Jets member Kathi wants attendees to remember, “bring your dancing shoes!”

Local talents from Elite Guam Dance Academy will open the dance floor and a percentage of this concert's ticket sales will be donated by Jamz Media to help students with scholarships to UOG.
