Price Elementary School “Lancheros” return to their home campus

After sowing seeds of determination, the hard work to get the Lancheros back on their home campus has finally flourished into a passing grade from health inspectors for Captain H.B. Price Elementary School.

The school community is making a homecoming to their Mangilao campus today, a mosaic of community effort.

From water-blasted roofs to freshly painted walls and newly renovated restrooms, the handiwork of all who stepped in to bring the Lancheros home is evident.

John Wesolowski is the school’s principal and he said, “It really was a community effort–from church groups to work with our benches, to our cafeteria needing a lot of work, with old windows needing to be replaced out. We had several community members and different contractors work on that.”

That collective aid from parents, faculty and staff, facilities and maintenance crews SORT, and other stakeholders making it possible for the school’s doors to open.

Still, Wesolowski said there’s work that still needs to be done to bring the campus up from a “C” rating to an “A.”

“Still some work in the restroom with some of the drains,” Wesolowski said. “That may have to go through a procurement process because that’s a little bit more extensive work. The windows and the old louvers–that stuff needs to continue to work–the spalling work needs to continue to get done, and just mostly–to maintain our progress.”

In the meantime, Wesolowski sticks to the mantra, “Own it, and fix it,” until he achieves that goal.

Also returning to their campus today were the faculty, staff, and students of JQ San Miguel Elementary School.
