Micronesia Climate Change Alliance and Hita Litekyan have been working hard to find ways to encourage and engage the community when it comes to indigenous land stewardship.

Currently the Ta Na'i Animu exhibit on display in the Guam Museum that runs until October is an opportunity to offer creative weekly events and workshops. One of those workshops  will be held Saturday, Aug. 31. titled, 'Slinging Seeds For Change.'

Maria Hernandez-May is co-director for MCCA, and she said, “We are excited to host this event this weekend, this is an amazing collaboration between two people that we truly adore. We are just so excited to share our traditional practices of slinging and our Mama Lou to teach traditional healing and combining in this amazing workshop.”

The workshop features Fokai Effect's Roman Dela Cruz and local healer Lourdes “Mama Lou” Manglona.

“We've been engaging in slinging for several years now. Always looking at evolving experience and making slinging develop a constructive mindset instead of a destructive mindset. See all that they have going on, it's been a really excellent opportunity for us to bring this to the people,” said Dela Cruz.

“This (holds da'ok seed)  you can do a lot of things so that's why we have to preserve and educate the younger generation because they will carry this to their future,” added Mama Lou.

'Slinging Seeds for Change' will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Guam Museum.
