Universal garbage collection plan debated on session floor

It was literal trash talk on the legislative session floor when senators debated Bill-165 this afternoon.

The measure would establish the Guam Solid Waste Authority’s Universal Garbage Collection plan.

The bill hopes to curb illegal dumping and maintain lower rates.

Senator Sabina Perez is the bill sponsor and she said, “The island-wide garbage collection is an important policy for our island to ensure that waste is disposed of properly because everyone pretty much produces waste and it is really our responsibility to ensure it is properly disposed of in a safe way.”

Among the amendments passed today is one that removes potential tax refund garnishments for customers with outstanding bills.

Session continues tomorrow morning.
